Proč tato nemoc?
Proč se nemoc nazývá roztroušená skleróza?
Tento název se skládá ze dvou pojmů. Řecké slovo „skleros“ znamená tuhý a v tomto případě představuje ztuhnutí místa, které bylo napadeno zánětem. Je to podobné jako srůsty. Po odeznění zánětu zůstane jakási jizva. Protože zánětlivá ložiska se nachází na různých místech bílé hmoty, kde později zůstávají zatuhlinky, hovoří se o roztroušené skleróze. Zjizvení (skleróza) zhoršuje správný přenos informace.
